Supporting students

For 100 years, we have inspired some of the best minds in the world, cultivating scholars from the junior undergraduate to the Nobel Laureate. Today we continue to attract the brightest students from 110 countries.

Every year, 550 new PhDs graduate and 2,400 new freshers join us to be educated with their peers by authorities in their subjects. We motivate and challenge our students and we are proud of how our alumni have gone on to shape society with their leadership and innovation.

Our scholarship programme levels the playing field for bright, talented students who, otherwise, would not be able to afford advanced education in the natural sciences, engineering, mathematics, and medicine. We honour our past by investing in the future. After all, we'd hate to miss a chance to hone the skills of the next Alexander Fleming or Andrew Huxley.

Current Student Support Projects

Sarah Morris Student Opportunities Fund
Since 2003, the Student Opportunities Fund has provided scholarships for 42 undergraduate and 18 postgraduate students. Funds raised from alumni and other supporters have made an immediate impact on their lives.

"I set my sights on Imperial as I instantly felt that I belonged here after attending Open Day, but in reality, when it came to looking at life beyond the age of 18, I was well aware that my mother would be unable to continue to support me financially.
"After being offered a place I constantly worried about how I was going to finance my studies, knowing that my loan wouldn't cover all of the costs I would incur, and I even contemplated rejecting my offer from Imperial.
"A scholarship is an amazing gift to offer any student, one for which I am incredibly grateful, and I am sure that all future recipients will be too. The chance to study at Imperial provides me with a great starting point in life."

Scholarships for EnVision 2010

Mechanical Engineering workshop 2007 sees the launch of EnVision 2010, a project that will build on the Faculty of Engineering's already excellent international reputation to ensure that by 2010 Imperial will have a sustainable and recognised position within the top five institutions for engineering education in the world.

A key element of EnVision 2010 will involve securing philanthropic income for undergraduate engineering scholarships, which will help in enabling the faculty to continue to recruit the brightest engineering undergraduates onto its courses.

"Imperial academics always want to be the best at what they do, and that includes educating and teaching new students. If we wish to remain in the top five worldwide, we need to make sure that we recruit the best students and that top quality, future-proof engineering programmes are devised and delivered in the optimal way.
"Imperial has a vital role to play in bringing through the best engineers into the industries that need them: aviation, construction, manufacturing, biotechnologies. The provision of a strong and sustainable programme of undergraduate scholarships will ensure that the faculty can recruit the most deserving students on to its courses, regardless of financial background."
