High marks for Physics

The Quality Assurance Agency's review team has once again awarded high marks to a College department.

The department of physics has been awarded 22 marks out of 24, the same figure that Biology received in November. "This score maintains the College's position in media league tables and will continue to attract well-qualified students," said Tony Bell, director of undergraduate studies.

Seven specialist reviewers from other university physics departments, as well as a generalist chair, spent four days in the department observing teaching, reading documentation and talking to students, graduates and employers.

They praised student support, quality management, tutorials, laboratory and the comprehensive (general) examination papers, as well as suggesting ways in which the department might improve the curriculum and the delivery of its lectures.
