Chinese Minister visits Department of Materials

Vice-Minister Xu Guanhua, Chinese Minister of Science and Technology, learned about research work on cleaner coal technology during a meeting in the department of materials.

Professor Harvey Flower, director of research, welcomed the minister and his party to the College. Presentations were made by Professors Fred Lockwood of the department of mechancial engineering, Rafael Kandiyoti, department of chemical engineering, Jim Williamson, department of materials and Dr Jon Gibbins, department of mechanical engineeering. The meeting was arranged by Dr Alan Heyes from the DTI Energy Technology Directorate, mindful that UK industries have a considerable market in China for new electrical generation plant.
