Nominee Supporting Statement
Keion Ing (Futsal) Keion has demonstrated remarkable prowess in advancing the women’s presence within futsal, traditionally a male-dominated domain. Collaborating closely with the women’s football club, he has actively encouraged participation in bi-monthly training sessions which he personally oversees, aiming to establish a dedicated women’s team by next year. Furthermore, he played a pivotal role in securing the autonomy of the futsal club and has excelled in his role as President. Juggling responsibilities such as managing all BUCS fixtures, coaching and participating in the first team, and leading recreational activities, Keion has consistently driven the teams towards excellence in their respective leagues. Notably, his adept organisation of social events, both within the club and in collaboration with others, has fostered a vibrant community atmosphere. Collectively, his contributions have been instrumental in the futsal club’s development, warranting abundant recognition for his invaluable efforts.
Lizzie Williams (Cricket) Three years ago, Lizzie initiated the women’s cricket segment at Imperial, collaborating with the then-President to lay its foundations and encourage greater female participation in the sport. Fast-forward to the present, and the women’s team has made its debut in BUCS this year, clinching victory in the London universities' indoor league. Much of this success can be attributed to Lizzie’s unwavering commitment, not only to cricket but also to ensuring women have ample opportunities to engage with the sport. Her steadfast dedication merits the highest commendation, as she has transformed the women’s section into an indispensable component of the cricket club.
Miles Nash (Dodgeball) After four years of active involvement in Dodgeball, serving as treasurer and captain of the men’s 2s team, Miles assumed the role of president this year, catalysing remarkable achievements for the club. Under his leadership, the Women’s 1s team secured the title of BUCS national champions, while the Men’s 1s team advanced to the BUCS finals. Notably, the club earned the highest tally of BUCS points among all Imperial sports clubs this year, amassing a total of 222 points. Miles has been an unwavering pillar of support for the club, motivating all teams to strive for excellence. He initiated women-only training sessions and fostered collaborations with other societies, such as organising events with the Filipino society. Additionally, his significant contributions as a member of the men’s 1s team have led to numerous accolades, including gold at the London Open and bronze at the university championships. Miles's outstanding dedication has propelled Dodgeball to become the most successful club in BUCS this year, while also cultivating a vibrant social environment. His influence has undoubtedly contributed to Dodgeball's reputation as an enjoyable sport at Imperial, making him a key figure in the club's success.
Patricia Acha Zamora (Cheerleading) Patricia assumed the role of Imperial Cheerleading President this year, a promotion from her previous position as Treasurer. Despite being in her final year of engineering, she dedicated extensive hours to the club, even stepping in to fill vacant committee positions. Under her leadership, the Level 2 team secured first place and the Level 1 team achieved second place in Nationals, with the Level 2 team also earning second place in regionals. Understanding the financial challenges of cheerleading, Patricia organised the most successful fundraiser in the Titans' history during her presidency. This achievement resulted in lower fees, demonstrating her commitment to ensuring accessibility to the sport for all members. Patricia's multifaceted contributions have not only enhanced the organisation and operation of the club but have also significantly elevated its competitive performance and financial sustainability.
Sameer Barakat (Barbell) Since Sameer assumed the role of president at IC Barbell, the club has gone from strength to strength. He has successfully navigated challenging negotiations to secure affordably priced services for the club, including identifying gyms with student-friendly rates. His efforts extended far beyond this, notably dedicating four months to organising an official powerlifting meet. This involved coordinating numerous volunteers, all of whom faced competing demands from other powerlifting federations and clubs. Sameer's commitment and leadership have undeniably elevated the standard of IC Barbell, marking a commendable achievement for the club.
