Imperial’s reputation as an international centre of research and teaching excellence has been built upon the achievements of diverse staff working over many decades. Our new College values (Respect, Collaboration, Integrity, Innovation and Excellence) emphasise the importance of culture and diversity, and shape how we work with one another. At the Dyson School of Design Engineering, we  embrace these Values (Respect, Collaboration, Integrity, Innovation and Excellence) and strive to be a beacon of opportunity for our staff and students.

The wellbeing and engagement of our community is central to our success and achievements at the Dyson School of Design Engineering. We are committed to addressing bias in all its forms to actively promote equality of access to opportunities for all individuals, with a particular focus on issues related to protected characteristics. We are dedicated to advancing the agenda of widening participation, ensuring that our community is diverse and inclusive. We actively promote ethics and transparency in processes to empower everyone in our community to achieve their potential.

Protected Characteristics

Protected Characteristics

"Protected characteristics" encompass a range of factors, including age, belief system, cultural identity, demographic and socio-economic background, disability, gender, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and parenthood, race, sex, and sexual orientation.

Raising concerns

If you have concerns regarding an Equality, Diversity and Inclusivity issue, staff members can contact Design Engineering's EDI committee members using the anonymous contact form or by emailing david.boyle@imperial.ac.uk directly.

Report + Support

Imperial College London utilises the Report and Support tool, enabling the disclosure (by you or on behalf of others) of unwelcome behaviors such as bullying, harassment, sexual violence, misconduct, racial discrimination, and more. This tool is accessible to all—staff, students, contractors, and visitors. Whether you've witnessed an incident or directly experienced bullying or harassment, you can use the tool anonymously or share your details for assistance.

Have Your Say Campaign

The Faculty of Engineering is actively working to eliminate discrimination, harassment, and bullying through the "Have Your Say Campaign." This initiative invites staff, students, and visitors to report or challenge the issues affecting you and your colleagues by either speaking confidentially to a professional counsellor or by using the anonymous online reporting tool
