A joint Medical School by Imperial College London and Nanyang Technological University

The Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine (LKCMedicine) is a collaborative partnership between Imperial College London and Nanyang Technological University, Singapore (NTU).

Together we provide world class and award-winning medical training in Singapore; LKCMedicine students follow an innovative curriculum developed by our team of academics and experts in the Faculty of Medicine at Imperial College. On successful completion of the programme, students are awarded a Bachelor of Medicine Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) jointly by Imperial and NTU. LKCMedicine’s first doctors graduated in 2018.

Our partnership with NTU and LKCMedicine has developed from providing a pedagogically pioneering and culturally relevant MBBS programme to extend beyond the original institutional agreement. We have developed close working collaborations such that our students and staff may take advantage of a number of joint initiatives; student mobility programmes, bespoke clinical electives opportunities, enrichment weeks, Intercalated BSc degree pathways, and partnerships in faculty research projects. The collaboration is active across many areas of medical education and is showcased in our exclusive Transform MedEd joint conferences series.

The LKCMedicine Story

On 5 August 2013 LKCMedicine opened its doors, a new undergraduate medical school developed to directly contribute to Singapore’s healthcare system and transform medical education.

Our journey with NTU and LKCMedicine

The aim of each partner was to train doctors to meet local needs and world class standards, to put patients at the centre of care, to use innovative medical education models and to transform the arena of medical education research. Graduates of the five-year medical degree programme have a strong understanding of the scientific basis of medicine, with an emphasis on technology, data science and the humanities.

Milestones Timelines

The School’s primary clinical partner is Singapore's National Healthcare Group, a leader in public healthcare recognised for the quality of its medical expertise, facilities and teaching.  Since its opening LKCMedicine has continued to increase its student cohort intake, to play a leading role in the health care communities in the country and to inspire new models of learning and teaching within medical education.

Global outlook, local context

A contemporary curriculum responsive to what is going on in the world around us, the integrated, systems based curriculum at LKCMedicine represents a unique and continuous partnership between educators, clinicians and scientists at Imperial College London and LKCMedicine.

Using Imperial's globally renowned undergraduate curriculum as a template we ensure maximum relevance to the Singaporean student, and to the culture and healthcare system in which graduates will practice medicine. Working closely together we ensure that every aspect of the programme and its ongoing iterative improvements are conducted to the very highest standards.
