Academic and pastoral support

The Structure is there to support you during your time at University. You will be assigned a Personal Tutor who you will get to know well during your time at Imperial, there are always a number of people available for you to speak to regarding any issue or concern you may be having.

ChemSoc

ChemSoc is a society run by students, for students, aiming to give undergraduates and postgraduates the best possible university experience by complimenting their degree with a wide range of social and careers events.

Keep an eye out for announcements of seminars, pub quizzes, and careers fairs.

Exams

Examinations are held in January and either May or June each year. Official examination timetables are sent out to College email accounts in advance. For all exams, you will be supplied with a calculator, a list of constants and a periodic table. Student Support Hub

The Chemistry Student Support Hub is a one-stop shop for all queries about undergraduate courses. The Centre is on Level 2 of the Chemistry Building on South Kensington Campus, open Monday – Friday 9am until 5pm.

Software for students

Imperial makes available a number of software for students at no cost. This software can be found on Microsoft Imagine by logging in with your institution.

Reference managers are incredibly useful for lab and literature report writing. There are a number of reference managers available:

As a student in the Department of Chemistry, you are able to download ChemDraw at no cost. ChemDraw is a molecule editor which is highly useful throughout your Chemistry degree.

SOLE

Student evaluations of undergraduate lecture modules and laboratory modules are organised using the Student Online Evaluation system (SOLE). Both numerical and textual feedback is captured during a two week period at the end of each term.

Student Experience Committee

Meetings of the Student Experience Committee are held regularly throughout the year. In these meetings three student representatives from each academic year, the student departmental academic and wellbeing representative make the opinions of the students known to academic staff in a collaborative environment, working together to improve the student experience. Minutes and action from these committee meetings can be found in Chem Central on Blackboard.
