open day for undergraduate students

Virtual PGT Departmental open day 2024

Virtual open day 2024 for the Department of Physics

Our Physics PGT department virtual open day took place on 16 January 2024.

The video explores the Open Day and what the Department of Physics has to offer. It is a chance to explore programme content, meet course leaders and have your questions answered.

The Department of Physics has a vibrant taught graduate portfolio offering eight masters programmes spanning a wide range of topics. Approximately 200 masters students join us each year from around the world, with backgrounds in physics, mathematics, engineering and the other physical sciences.

More information about the internal PGT Open Day which took place within the Department of Physics in December 2023 Day can be seen at PGT Open Day December 2023.

The Department is offering the following programmes for 2024 entry:

  • MSc Physics
  • MSc Physics with Extended Research (2 year)
  • MSc Physics with Quantum Dynamics
  • MSc Quantum Fields and Fundamental Forces
  • MSc Security and Resilience: Science and Technology
  • MSc and MRes in Optics and
  • MRes Machine Learning and Big Data
  • MRes Soft Electronic Materials

Through a combination of lectures, practical laboratories and individual research projects, students are bought to the cutting edge of research. Specialisms include cosmology, physics of light and materials, to the physics of the quantum realm, and down to the tiniest scales of particle physics. Our programmes span all the way from blue skies research areas through to those with very direct application in industry, computing and the resilience of society.

The Virtual Open Day gave students the chance to:

  • learn more about the department, our master's programmes and their entry requirements;
  • meet our programme directors;
  • chat to teaching and support staff; and
  • ask questions live.
