The Changing Face Of Engineering – Dervilla Mitchell, Deputy Chair of Arup Group and Global Ethics Director

Friday 23 June, 13.30-14.30, Lecture Theatre 201, Skempton Building (also on MS Teams)

Dervilla will reflect on her career and how it has evolved, with a particular emphasis on Terminal 5 at Heathrow, as it was such a pivotal and career enhancing project. From inception to completion Terminal 5 took 20 years, and at the time of construction was the largest construction project in Europe and was innovative in having a behavioural contract across all first tier suppliers and using a digital model for the design and construction. The T5 programme was designed to enhance the capacity of airport by 35million passengers and in 2018, 10 years after opening it handled just over 32 million passengers on 211,000 flights.

In her lecture she will also look forward and talk about the role of engineering in a more technology enabled world and how we might deliver transformational societal change.

Dervilla Mitchell is a Deputy Chair of Arup Group and Global Ethics Director.
