a) Are any special skills required to be able to work as Research Fellow compared to being a postdoc?
Being a research fellow gives you the opportunity to concentrate on research only so there is more freedom to work on your own ideas. This means one should be inventive and resourceful enough to develop the science defining your work as a fellow.
b) What are the main characteristics that make a successful Research Fellowship applicant?
I still have to find out… Perhaps be a good salesperson. After all, one has to convince complete strangers that their career and research plan are worth funding! It is easier to project yourself into the future than to show that future to others.
